Council leads or is associated with a large number of planning and infrastructural development initiatives.

Much of this work is driven by the need to accommodate an ever expanding population.

Every week that goes in the western Bay of Plenty sub-region which includes the Western Bay of Plenty District and Tauranga City:

  • 100 people arrive to live from other places
  • 32 new houses are built
  • 54 more vehicles go the road
These figures underpin forecasts indicating that the population of the sub-region will grow from 130,000 in 2001, to 218,000 by 2026 and to 289,000 by 2051.

The projects in this section highlight some of the work we are doing as a Council, and in association with other local authorities, to ensure the District and the sub-region continues to be one of the best places in New Zealand to live, work and play.
