Council is in the process of undertaking two major pieces of work that are all about making the Western Bay of Plenty District a better place to live, work and play.

District Plan Review
The District Plan review is the first comprehensive reassessment of Council’s guiding document to meet its obligations under the provisions of the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) since 1994.

Built Environment Strategy
Key to the District Plan review is the integration of new strategies such as the Built Environment Strategy and various structure plans, as well as SmartGrowth – the 50 year growth management plan for Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty District.

Through the Built Environment Strategy, Council would like to guide and encourage public and private developers to follow a sustainable approach towards development, an approach towards development that can be passed on to future generations with pride.
