I'Anson Bush Reserve
| Walking Time: | Up to 45 minutes return |
This reserve is located on Loop Road, off SH2, just north of Te Puna.
The land was gifted to the QE II National Trust in 1987 by Keith & Takiko I’Anson. It was their intention that it be transformed from dairy pasture to native bush and remain so in perpetuity for the enjoyment of the public. Lake Taki was created by the damming of the Waikaraka Stream and extensive native plantings have created a pleasant spot to visit for a picnic or walk through the reserve. The naming of the Reg Janes and the Graeme Mander Walkways acknowledges the tremendous effort that these two Forest & Bird Protection Society members, along with many others, have put into re-vegetation of the reserve. This work still continues.
From the carpark, where there is a picnic area and toilet, follow the walking tracks either way around the lake through maturing groves of native trees. The reserve continues downstream past more recent plantings to Armstrong Road, creating a pleasant meandering walk in a rural environment.
