Council has appropriated funding in the current financial year for the design and consenting process in order to construct a new Northern Harbour Boat Ramp facility. Funding for the construction process is programmed for 2008/2009 and 2009/2010.
Proposals for a new boat ramp facility have been promoted for quite a few years and investigations have been carried out from time to time on a limited basis but the funding provided this year has enabled a concentrated effort to be undertaken to promote a selected site for a new ramp and to complete the detailed design and obtain the necessary consents for its construction. There have been local meetings at Kauri Point and Ongare Point where Council’s consultant has outlined the processes involved and provided updates on the progress to date.
One concern that arose during the follow up meetings was the general lack of community knowledge of the background investigations carried out for this project as recorded in the two following reports:
The Council Report “Northern Harbour Boat Ramp Investigation Report” of August 2001, and
The Tonkin and Taylor Report “Te Kauri North Proposed Boat Ramp” of April 2002 (incorrectly labelled 2020).
Those reports are now included on Council's website for ease of access and reference. It is also proposed to place other specialist reports related to this project on this same website as they become available.
Council would appreciate receiving any interested comments on this planning process.
